Wednesday 29th May
Half Term Foraging at The Macs Farm
Join Foraging guide Mike Cutting (Forage Brighton) and Deano Mac (The Macs farm and Deano’s Snake Shack) for an experience surrounded by nature, as we explore the beautiful Macs farm in Ditchling, East Sussex.
Follow your guides through various organic habitats and learn how to identify edible wild plants that grow freely around us.
This is your chance to gain knowledge and understanding of the natural world around us and learn about the amazing food that it can supply us with.
Then, join us at our banquet table in the woods for our wild picnic next to an open fire, where we will sample some of the best foraged foods from the local area!
We will be visiting a variety of different habitats including hedgerows, grass lands and wooded areas. You will have the opportunity to observe, touch, smell and taste a variety of wild plants and learn about their culinary and medicinal applications.
Our wild picnic will include tasters of many different foraged goods, such as wild leaf salads and pesto, sauerkrauts and kimchi, wild dairy cheeses, fermented plant based cheeses, tempura treats, pickles, herbal teas and cordials.
Throughout the day we will be on the lookout for local wildlife including invertebrates, birds of prey, reptiles and amphibians. We will learn about the habitats they thrive in and the current problems they face on a daily basis.
